Our Lady of Hope/ St. Luke School opened as Our Lady of Hope School on September 7, 1954 as a result of the efforts of Monsignor Zinkand, who was the pastor of two small community churches in the Dundalk area, St. Adrian in Inverness and St. Mildred in Gray Manor. The school was built to educate the growing population of the neighborhoods following World War II. The original building contained 8 classrooms, office space and a cafeteria. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the population soared to over 800 students and a second wing was built to expand the school building. The new addition included 8 more classrooms, a nurse?s office, a principal?s office, a library and a faculty room. During the 1970s, the school continued to grow as did the population. In the 1980s, with the downsizing of Bethlehem Steel and the stabilization of the area, the enrollment leveled off to about 300 students.
In 1989, St. Luke School in Edgemere was closed and plans were made for those students to attend Our Lady of Hope School. In 1991, Our Lady of Hope School became an interparish school and was renamed Our Lady of Hope / St. Luke School. Today, the school continues to serve the communities of Dundalk and Edgemere as it has for the last fifty years...
Our Lady of Hope/ St. Luke School is a unique school because it is divided into two campuses. The main school is located in Dundalk, Maryland on North Boundary Road and contains grades kindergarten through eight. The Pre-K classes are located at the St. Luke campus on North Point Road in Edgemere, Maryland.
Situated on twenty-two acres, Our Lady of Hope/St. Luke School serves the communities of the Dundalk and Edgemere area. With the support of two parishes, Our Lady of Hope and St. Luke, the school has been an active member of the community for over fifty years. The students are challenged by a strong academic curriculum rich in Christian values. With a newly renovated computer lab, the students are ready to meet the future.
